If there’s any truth to the philosophy that no person ever steps into the same river twice, then someone should have told me this before I jumped off a speaker stack at the MMRBQ to follow Walt Lafty out into the crowd. Those Ancient Greeks were trying to say that both the river changes, and the person changes. No one steps into the same river twice. And yet the last thing I remembered before going over the front of the stage this weekend was, “ha, you’ve done this a bunch of times. Just remember to land softly on your knees.” Sometimes the river is a huge venue stage in New Jersey. Sometimes the person is me.
I’ve just returned home from some light time travel with the boys - the men - in Silvertide. I could try to quantify it all but that would strip me of the chance to simply feel it and appreciate it. There’s amazing stuff on the line, in the works, and on the horizon, and I’m excited to be a part of it, even moreso because I get to partner creatively on it with Brynn, and I got to time travel along with Three and Rob Mondell and Doc Carbine and C.J. Strock and Brent Porche and WMMR. And there were amazing family and friends from all around the world along for the ride, which always makes it extra special. It always makes it worth doing.
I am so proud of the band for what they’re making happen right now. I am so excited to see where things take them. And I am so honored and grateful that they still trust in me, in Brynn, in ideas and vision and creative partnership after all of this time. Getting invited and accepted to play is always the thrill of a lifetime. And hey, I still remember how to jump off a speaker stack and land without feeling like my whole body is breaking. I just do it now in way more comfortable shoes.
